Our story

Since 1982, master gardener Egon Karl Egenolf and his family have been growing exotic grass plants in his specialist nursery. His passion for bamboo started 40 years ago during a trip to Asia and since then he has expanded his expertise and collections through decades of experience. The nursery, called Hofstetter Mühle, is located in a beautiful location above Lake Constance, in the middle of the border triangle between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. With an area of no less than six hectares and now in its second generation, the nursery grows numerous bamboo species and offers a wide selection of Mediterranean and exotic plants for home and garden, such as palm trees, grasses, perennials, bed and balcony plants, and special green roof plants. The creative team at Hofstetter Mühle works hard every day to provide their customers with the best quality plants and excellent service.

Did you know that our bamboo nursery offers a huge variety of robust, easy to care for and highly decorative bamboo plants? We specialize in growing these plants and have decades of experience in developing new varieties. Whether you are looking for a solitary plant for your garden or an entire hedge to demarcate your yard, we have it all.

And best of all, we can ship our plants to you wherever you live in Europe! Our shipping department has extensive experience and is happy to provide you with a quote. Of course you are also very welcome to visit us and receive personal expert advice. You can choose the plants and collect them from our nursery, located on the beautiful Lake Constance.

Our nursery has a sales area of no less than 10,000 m² and is filled with inspiring bamboo and plant options. We also have intermediate sizes available, varying in height, number of stems, pot size and price. To avoid long waiting times for collection, we do ask you to order the plants in advance.
