Bedding for your bedroom – duvet covers, fitted sheets and finishing touches
Build your bedding around your mattress, duvet and personal preferences. Explore duvet covers, fitted sheets, flat sheets, pillowcases and duvets, with practical guidance on size, fabric and care.
Choose bedding around your bed and routine
Bedding shapes the appearance of your bedroom and the way you make and care for your bed. Start by deciding which parts need replacing: the sheet on your mattress, the cover around your duvet or a coordinated combination. Choose each item by its own dimensions and specifications. You can create a considered look without buying an identical set; complementary colours and repeated accents can bring different fabrics together.
Understand the different bedding items
A duvet cover encloses your duvet, while a fitted sheet wraps around your mattress or topper. A flat sheet is used differently and does not have the same elasticated corners. Matching pillowcases complete the head of the bed. If you also need a new filling, explore the duvets and check the dimensions and construction of each option.
Measure each part separately
Your mattress dimensions do not automatically determine your duvet size. For fitted sheets, measure mattress width, length and depth. For duvet covers, read the dimensions on your duvet label and check whether any extra cover length refers to a tuck-in flap. Measure your pillows too: a matching colour does not guarantee a matching pillowcase size. Country-specific names such as king or double can describe different dimensions, so compare the measurements in centimetres.
| Bedding item | Measurements to check |
|---|---|
| Fitted sheet | Mattress width, length and pocket depth |
| Duvet cover | Duvet dimensions and closure type |
| Pillowcase | Pillow width and length |
| Duvet | Preferred coverage and compatible cover size |
Compare fibres, textures and finishes
Read the complete composition on the product page. Cotton and bamboo-derived viscose describe fibres, whereas jersey, percale and satin refer to a structure or weave. Satin therefore does not automatically mean cotton. A blended fabric may also feel different or require different care from a single-fibre fabric. Compare the stated composition, texture and maintenance requirements with your preference for a smooth, supple or stretchy feel.
Care for your bedding as a combination
Follow the individual care label for every piece and separate laundry by colour and material. Use the stated washing temperature and check whether tumble drying is permitted. When choosing a complete combination, consider how much bedding your washing machine can handle at once. An extra fitted sheet or pair of pillowcases can be useful while the other set is being washed and dried.
Frequently asked questions about bedding
Does every duvet cover include pillowcases?
No. Check the number of pieces and their dimensions in the individual product information.
Will a double duvet cover fit every double bed?
Measure the duvet itself. Bed-size names are not consistent across countries.
Can I combine different fabrics?
Yes. Make sure the items fit and follow each item's own care instructions.
Which fabric is best for everyone?
There is no single answer. Compare fibre composition, texture and care with your own preferences.
