Mattress and topper protectors – compare sizes, depth and split designs
Compare mattress protectors by dimensions, depth and construction. Check whether each item suits a full mattress, a topper or a split-topper setup.
Mattress protector, molton or topper cover?
A mattress protector adds a layer between your mattress and the rest of your bedding. Its exact purpose depends on the construction: a molton protector, a waterproof protector and an ordinary topper cover are not automatically the same thing. Read the individual description and decide which layer you need. A protective cover is also different from a complete padded topper. Always check exactly what is included.
Match dimensions and depth to your bed
Measure the width, length and depth of the surface you want to protect. For a topper protector, compare topper depth rather than total bed height. Split toppers also require the correct position and length of the opening. Matching outer dimensions alone is not enough when your bed has a different construction. For adjustable beds, read the relevant fitting information before choosing a cover.
Waterproof construction and composition
If you need a waterproof layer, check that the property is explicitly stated for the product. The upper fabric and protective backing may use different materials. Read the full composition and intended use. The word molton alone does not establish that an item is waterproof. Also compare how the protector fits around the mattress and how you will use a fitted sheet over it.
Caring for protective bedding
Follow the instructions for your particular protector. A protective backing may need a different washing or drying method from an ordinary fitted sheet. Use the specified temperature and follow any instructions on detergent, drying and subsequent treatment. Allow the protector to dry fully before making the bed. After fitting it, check that all layers sit flat and that the edges fit securely.
| Bed setup | Check |

Frequently asked questions
Is every molton protector waterproof?
No. Waterproof performance must be explicitly stated for the product.
Is a protector the same as a topper?
No. A topper is an additional mattress layer; a protector is usually bedding used over that surface.
Will a standard cover fit a split topper?
Check the construction, dimensions and required split opening.
Can I add a fitted sheet over a protector?
Check that the combination is suitable and that the fitted sheet accommodates the combined depth.
