More about Fitted sheets
Choosing fitted sheets for your bed
A fitted sheet protects your mattress and provides a smooth base for your bedding. Getting the fit right starts with three measurements: width, length and depth. Measure the mattress itself rather than relying on the name of your bed frame. Then compare those measurements with the specifications of the individual sheet. A sheet that fits well should cover the mattress without excessive tension or loose fabric at the sides.
Check dimensions and pocket depth
European sizes are usually shown in centimetres. A 160 × 200 cm sheet is described by width and length; pocket depth is a separate measurement. Bed names such as double, king and queen can mean different dimensions in different countries, so use the centimetre measurements when ordering. If a sheet is listed with a size range, make sure your mattress falls within that range and that the depth is also suitable.

Understanding bamboo, cotton, jersey and satin
Read the full fibre composition before choosing. A bamboo-labelled sheet may use viscose derived from bamboo or a blend of fibres. Cotton describes a fibre, jersey describes a knitted structure, and satin can describe a weave. These terms do not all refer to the same aspect of a fabric. Compare the composition, stretch, finish and care instructions to find an option that suits your preferences and laundry routine.
Sheets for toppers and adjustable beds
A thin mattress topper may need a shallower fitted sheet than a standard mattress. Some adjustable beds use split toppers, which require a matching split-topper sheet. Check both the overall dimensions and the split length stated for the product. Do not assume that every elasticated sheet can be used for every topper or adjustable bed.
Care and matching bedding
Follow the care label supplied with your sheet. Washing temperature and tumble-drying suitability vary with the fabric and finish. Wash similar colours together and dry sheets fully before storing them. Complete your bed with matching duvet covers, pillowcases and, where needed, a mattress protector. Frequently asked questions about fitted sheets
Can I use a larger fitted sheet?
Choose the stated size or a suitable size range. An oversized sheet may wrinkle or move around.
What is pocket depth?
It is the mattress depth the sheet is designed to accommodate. Compare it with the depth of your mattress or topper.
Will a standard sheet fit a topper?
Not necessarily. Check that the product is designed for toppers and that its depth is suitable.
Can I tumble-dry every fitted sheet?
No. Follow the individual care label for the correct washing and drying method.
